Cliché as it may sound, I’m going to coin a quote here: “Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer”. I think this is undeniably true. Traveling takes you out of your box and helps you grow as a person while meeting new people and exploring new places and experiences. However, if you’re low on funds and the travel bug is biting, what can you do?
Here are some ideas for low budget travel:
1. Road trip
Taking a group of friends for a joy ride out on the open road can be a great cost-effective way to go places. You can take a car or if you are looking to have homey comforts you can rent a motorhome. Exploring new highways along the way to your destination can be an inspiring way to bond and bring together a family or group of friends. Whether you are taking a small car or a more equipped souped up RV, you can guarantee that it will be a fun time.
2. Volunteer
If you are willing to make a bigger commitment or want to go on a soul searching trip, volunteering is a good way to do it. You get to give back and a the same time you are able to get the opportunity of being assigned in a foreign country. Most good volunteer organizations will take care of your food and lodging, you just need to buy your ticket. Just be sure to only secure your volunteer work from trusted organizations.
3. Camping
Costing very little money, camping is a great way to get away from the urban bubble that you live in. National Parks in America are really comfortable and comes with cabins for those not equipped to rough it too much. You can bring your own food and save money on restaurants.
4. Check the Local Sights
You don’t have to go too far to travel. A lot of people don’t check out their own town’s attractions. This is a good time to learn more about the place you live in, so you can share first hand recommendations to other travelling friends and family. Ask around or look online for the best museums, plays, and tourist stops and see what the buzz is about! It wouldn’t hurt to love your own.
When traveling on a budget, there are still a lot of possibilities. Not everything fun is expensive! Just get up and get your foot out of the door, you’ll never know what’s waiting for you outside!
