Camping is a great way to enjoy a holiday. You can breathe in nature, sleep under the stars and take in some brilliant outdoor activities. Of course, I’m referring here to wild camping in a tent or cabin, as opposed to camping in a fancy holiday park.
You can set up camp on many national parks and forests in the US. The National Trust in the UK also offers some fine natural campgrounds. The best thing about this kind of camping is you will be able to find free, open spaces where you can try activities you wouldn’t be able to do elsewhere.
To get the true wild camping experience, here are some activities you should try out.
Build A Campfire
Nothing beats sitting around a warm fire you built yourself, and even cooking your own food on it. This is part of the traditional camping experience.
If you don’t already know how to build a campfire, it’s pretty simple to learn. Pretty much all you’ll need is some twigs and branches, a lighter or matches and maybe some flammable liquid to feed it (alcohol works just fine).
You can cook on a fire just like you would on a stove at home. Just bring a frying pan and some sausages and burgers and you can have your own natural barbecue. Also remember to take marshmallows to get the classic camping experience of roasting a marshmallow on a stick.
Archery
Shooting some arrows into a tree can make you feel like a real wild man. While there are ways to build your own bow and arrows, it’s probably best to buy them. Check reviews online to see what’s best. Websites like chandlerrodandgunclub are a good place to start.
Archery is a great camping experience, but remember to keep your arrows a safe distance away from any other people or animals on the campground.
Fishing
Most campgrounds have great lakes and rivers for fishing. This can be one of the most relaxing ways to enjoy being out in nature.
If you’ve never fished before, now is a good time to learn. Packing a rod and some bait and seeing what you can catch is all part of the wild camping experience.
Sleep Under The Stars
If the night is warm, you can take your sleeping bag outside and sleep under the stars. This can be one of the greatest ways to get a true camping experience and really feel at one with nature.
Remember not to sleep too close to a campfire- you don’t want to be woken up by a burning sleeping bag!
Take A Long Walk
Many campgrounds offer footpaths and hiking trails. Even if they don’t, taking a walk through the forest and appreciating your surroundings can be very enjoyable. Remember to pack some water and snacks and take time to check out the nature around you.
There are many other activities you can enjoy while camping. Depending on the rivers available to you, you might be able to go kayaking. Depending on the laws of where you are, you might even be able to hunt. Enjoy doing things you wouldn’t normally do while you’re out in the wild.
