One of my favourite things about travelling around the world is seeing the different partying cultures. After all, there are some fantastic cities which have great bars, nightclubs, and live bands. And as you can see in my previous blog, I especially loved visiting all the beer-drinking spots in Europe! Thailand, in particular, has so many great places to party including Bangkok and Pattaya. In fact, millions of young travellers head there every year for the fabulous beach parties and clubs! So if you are heading there for your travels, it’s a must to check out the party scene. But when you are travelling alone, it can put you at risk. After all, if you have a couple of drinks, you might get lost, or have your belongings stolen. Therefore, here are eight unmissable tips you need if you are planning on partying during your trip to Thailand!
Go partying with a local
If you decide you want to check out the party scene, you should consider grouping up with someone who lives in the local area. After all, they will be clued up on exactly where to go, and the places to avoid. And that way, you can feel safe there is someone who knows how to talk Thai if you do run into trouble. You might be able to find a local to party with by asking at the hostel. They should know some locals who will be happy to escort you to the lively areas. Or you might just want to speak to the locals yourself and strike up a conversation about the best places to go! They will give you some advice so that you can stay safe while having a fantastic time. And there are also apps which can help you to connect with locals. The Party with a Local app can help you find locals who are looking to party and will ensure you get an authentic feel for the city’s party scene!
Check if you are the right age
Before you head out clubbing in Thailand, you need to make sure you have some form of ID with you. I wouldn’t recommend taking your passport, but a copy of your license or passport should be sufficient. You do need to check how old you have to be to enter the clubs. Despite the official age being 18, a lot of the clubs in Thailand have a minimum age of 20 or 21. So make sure you check out where you are allowed to go before you end up heading home with the blues as you weren’t allowed to party at a particular club!
Be careful about going off with anyone
When you are out partying, it’s easy to make a few mistakes when you have had a couple of drinks. For example, you might start talking to a local and then decide to head home with them. But you don’t know what their intentions are. They might have noticed you are a traveller and might take advantage of the situation. Therefore, it’s so important to keep your wits about you and always think twice before going off with a stranger.
Don’t carry around a lot of money
You need to be so careful about how much money you are carrying around while you are travelling in Thailand. Of course, you need funds to be able to pay for your drinks and get transport back to your hostel later. But if you carry too much, you might be at risk of theft. And with your money gone, you might struggle to get back to your accommodation. And it could cause your trip to end sooner than you planned! Therefore, don’t carry around too much with you!
Pick somewhere that is full of fellow travellers
When you decide to go partying, you need to firstly check out the different places to go. You want to choose an area that is full of fellow travellers. For example, you might want to check out the walking street nightlife in Pattaya. It’s the centre of the nightlife scene so you will feel safe to know there will be loads of people around you. If you do go to a quieter location, make sure you weigh up if you feel safe or not. And if you don’t, move on quickly after one drink to somewhere safer!
Drink in moderation
One of the most important tips I can give you if you want to party during your trip to Thailand is to make sure you drink in moderation. The more you drink, the more at risk you are putting yourself in. Therefore, stick to a few drinks and stop when you feel out of control. And don’t accept drinks from strangers. You don’t want to end up waking up somewhere you don’t know with someone you don’t remember!
Check out transport around the area first
It’s so important to check out how you will get home when you head out partying during your travels to Thailand. You don’t want to end up somewhere you don’t know, with no clue how to get home at two in the morning! Therefore, have a look at the bus routes and where you can pick one up later in the evening. If you are in Bangkok, you might want to get the Skytrain, which is a cheap and fast way to get back to your hostel!
Ask your hostel about organised nightlife activities
If you haven’t got a clue about where to go to party while you are on your travels, you could talk to your hostel. Some hostels will organise nightlife activities so that you can party while feeling safe. For example, they might hold a pub crawl tour that you can go on with fellow travellers! It’s a great way to check out the party scene, without putting yourself in danger of getting lost!
Partying in Thailand is an excellent way to learn about the locals and try some new drinks! As well as loosen up after a long day checking out the amazing sights! And you might even find a tipple in Thailand which will become your signature drink. For example, Sato is absolutely delicious, so give it a go while partying!
