Ever wonder what everybody else is doing for holiday travel? To find out, you can always stalk your friends, enemies, and former lovers on Facebook, as most people will make sure to post every and anytime they travel (“So excited to be done with work and headed to (blank)!!”). But that would be rather pathetic study at best, filled with anecdotal and incomplete information. It would also miss those blessed people who travel without making sure the whole internet knows their itinerary. (I, a travel blogger, just wrote that last sentence. Don’t worry, I fully am aware of the irony). So if you really want to find out where people are traveling to, and use that information to either go to where everybody goes or avoid those spots, depending on what kind of traveler you are, you would need to do a serious study. Luckily, our friends over at eDreams
have done just that.
eDreams did a rather extensive study of Holiday Destinations from the UK. The researched Brits traveling during the holidays, which they counted as traveling anytime between December 21st and January 6.
What they found was that the three top destinations for flights out of the UK and Northern Ireland during that time were headed to Bangkok, New York, and Sofia. Bangkok makes sense because it’s warm and all, New York at Xmas kind of its own magical thing, but Sofia really strikes me as odd. I’ve heard great things about it; it must really be emerging as a travel spot to manage to sneak behind NYC as a tourist destination. The rest of the top 10 is rounded out by Bucharest, Johannesburg, Lisbon, Sydney, Orlando, Dubai, and Cape Town.
So there’s the list. This should give you a choice of destinations to think about if you want to go on vacation with Brits. If not, stay away from those places. Oh, and also London. I hear there are a lot of Brits living there these days.
