Almost everyone in London has dreams of Florida sunshine and oranges in February. That’s why another of my favourite places to flashpack is Key West–also known as “Margaritaville.” Get flipflops, bathing trunks, casual wear, and anything else you need at the airport or in town.
And, as it happens, so many people from all over the world head to Key West for Spring Break. Close your eyes and listen on Duval Street to hear the world’s languages spoken. Key West is a perfect place to decompress, visit Hemingway’s homestead (along with a herd of amazing polydactyl cats), and throw a stone in the direction of Cuba. It’s about ninety miles from Key West to Cuba (closer to
Cuba than Miami!), another phenomenal party island.
So many people worry about airport parking before heading off on vacation, but Londoners have less to worry about than most folks. Drop off is a breeze and Gatwick parking costs just £41.95 for eight days.
Key West bars are a great place to people-watch. A long-time favourite bar, Hog’s Breath (where it’s possible to get
caught on cyber-cam for people-watchers at home), is a good place to start. Some popular bar crawls include Key West Pub Crawl or Bone Island Haunted Pub Crawl. Meet scads of people, plentiful cocktails, and a free t-shirt with either!
