Old Havana
Strolling the lively and charismatic streets of Old Havana is a must and this is a great way to see the heart and soul of the city. A UNESCO world heritage site, there are all kinds of highlights throughout the old town
, including Catedral de San Cristobal, Plaza de Armas and Plaza Vieja. Throughout Old Havana you will find plenty of welcoming shops, bars and restaurants, as well as street performers which helps to create a fun and lively atmosphere.
Plaza de la Revolución
Get your cameras ready here, as there is an impressive Josi Marti monument, as well as the iconic image of Che Guevara that adorns the entire side of the Ministry of the Interior building. The square his historic significance, being the place that the masses have gathered to listen to Castro’s speeches over the years.
El Malecon
El Malecon is the famous 7km long seafront boulevard which is very pleasant to stroll along (particularly at sunset). There are a handful of highlights to see along the way, but it also gives you a glimpse of authentic Havana as it somewhere that the locals gather for socialising and to fish in the ocean.
Museum of the Revolution
Cuba has a fascinating past and no trip is complete without a little history lesson. The best place for this is the Museum of the Revolution, which features a range of brilliant exhibits and takes you through the story of Che Guevara. The museum itself is in an ornate dome-topped building which was formerly the Presidential Palace.
Cigar Factory
When you think of Cuba, cigars will be one of the first things to come to mind. Be sure to visit a cigar factory to see how these are made first hand – you may also want to sample one yourself. The Partagas Cigar Factory is the most famous in the capital.
