It’s barely a surprise if Australia’s Great Barrier Reef and Ayers Rock spring up when talking about the living structures and monoliths on Earth. Apart from these world-famous places, Australia also offers a great opportunity to explore its diverse landscape via train travel.
Take a look at the recommended itinerary given below to discover Australia by rail:
3 nights in Sydney
Begin the first day of your holiday by walking through the Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney. From running trails, breathtaking gardens to educative tours & walks, the garden has plenty a lot to offer to everyone. Spend the rest of the day by visiting the renowned Sydney Opera House, The Rocks, and Sydney Harbour Bridge. We suggest you reserve a few hours of Day 2 for some sun and sand at the picturesque Bondi Beach. After soaking up the sun, head to Sydney Tower Eye and enjoy a sumptuous dinner in Chinatown. On Day 3, you could visit the Wild Life Sydney Zoo, Taronga Zoo, and Sea Life Sydney Aquarium.
3 nights/4 days in Canberra
Hop on the train early in the morning to reach Canberra by afternoon, which is only a 5.30-hours train ride away from Sydney. After a quick lunch, head to the National Arboretum Canberra to spend the second half of your first day in the company of beautiful landscapes and structures. Over the next two days, we highly recommend you visit the Parliament House, Australian War Memorial, and National Gallery of Australia. On the morning of Day 7, enjoy a lakeside breakfast at the man-made Lake Burley Griffin. You can also explore the Namadji National Park until it’s time to catch the train to Melbourne.
4 nights/5 days in Melbourne
Canberra to Melbourne is a long 9-hours scenic train journey with a stopover of a few hours in Goulburn. Therefore, we suggest you take an overnight train to Melbourne – early evening departure from Canberra to reach the city early in the morning. To surf and meet the adorable koalas, plan a trip to the 150-mile long Great Ocean Road on your first day in Melbourne. We suggest you explore the nearby scenic spots, such as Phillip Island, Queenscliff and Geelong by planning day trips on Day 9 and 10. Visit the Queen Victoria Market, Shrine of Remembrance, and Melbourne Zoo on the last two days of your holiday.
