With so much to do in Thailand, it has fast become a traveller’s favourite, making it difficult to narrow down all the must-see places from all the recommendations out there.
If you’re looking for a leisurely break involving plenty of sun and sand, Thailand is known for its tropical climate and huge selection of unspoiled white beaches. We’ve picked some of our favourite sandy spots for a first-time traveller to its sunny shores.
Phi Phi Don, Koh Phi Phi
You may recognise Phi Phi Don from the big screen as this picturesque group of islands has a claim to fame – it’s where Leonardo DiCaprio’s movie The Beach was filmed.
Accessible only by boat, its white sands, limestone cliffs and stunning beach-front jungles has made it a popular spot for visitors to Thailand. Not only this, there are plenty of opportunities for activities like snorkelling and diving and you can also let your hair down by finding an all-night beach party.
Railay Beach, Krabi
One of Thailand’s most stunning beaches, Railay is surrounded by dramatic limestone cliffs, which are popular with rock climbing enthusiasts and also an amazing backdrop for when you’re sunbathing on the pristine beach.
Again, this beach is only accessible by a boat ride, so you’ll feel as though you’re lounging on a private island. Thrill-seekers can go snorkelling, rock climbing and kayaking and those looking for a relaxed break can enjoy the sun and explore all the hidden little coves.
For those who fancy a challenge, you should explore the picturesque viewpoints from the East and West. They involve relatively difficult hikes, but the effort is definitely worth it when you look down on the breath-taking paradise.
Laem Sing, Phuket
Located on the West Coast of Phuket, you can get your first glimpse of the beautiful Laem Sing Beach from the roadside when travelling there by car. Hidden between Surin and Kamala beaches, Laem Sing is a hidden treasure and known as an unspoiled beach.
In high season, you can try your hand at body boarding, hire a banana boat or jet ski and enjoy being surrounded by hundreds of fish when you try to feed them. With a decent pick of restaurants on the beach, many of them specialising in seafood, it’s the perfect spot for a holiday-goer, whether you’re looking for adventure or craving a lazy afternoon in the sun.
