I’ve been doing this for a while and many people have asked me about how I got started with blogging. In truth, it is not that hard to start your own blog.
You’re a real travel junkie and have traveled to many different places in each corner of the world like Honolulu
… and you have too much memories to keep in your brain! If you want a place to put the details of your adventures in and make sure your memories are all in the same place, finding the inspiration and the motivation to write will be easy.
It’s the technical stuff that usually dissuades people from getting started. However, it is much easier now than ever to get a website up and running, you just have to NOT let it intimidate you.
Once you have the creative side of things down- theme, name, topic ideas, etc, you need to get started and make your dreams a reality. Here are the three things to get started with.
Step 1: Get a Host
Think about it as renting web real estate. I use HostGator, and this is after much research
. You will find that they offer many features and provide great customer service, especially if you are new to all of this. It gives you a free domain as well, which is your website’s name. In real estate terms – the host is your lot, the domain is your house number. You can learn more about hosting through many credible hosting reviews
. Do your research on what is best for you.
Step 2: Install WordPress
I use WordPress like many other bloggers. WordPress is one of the largest publishing platforms out there. It is very user friendly and easy and even bigger companies trust this platform. In case you come across something that you are not familiar with, there are so many threads by users all over the world that you can come to for help, or you can simply get in touch with their help line. Even other bloggers have dedicated websites for great blogging advice
. At this stage, you can start writing and building your website!
Step 3 : Link your Social Sites
There are many programs that help you manage your social presence, like Hootsuite
. Now that you are using your social pages for website and personal uses, you will need to monitor the activity in all of them. Marketing your blog ensures traffic. After all, you are getting into writing because you want to share your thoughts and adventures, so get yourself out there!
Easy, right? The hardest step is the first one. Just dive in and get it done! Hope this helps!
