The Alps and the Adriatic in Slovenia

March 18, 2020 by Jason B.

Slovenia is a great little county. There is so much to see in a very small area, it’s not too touristy, it’s completely modern, and the it’s gorgeous. In more ways then one.

I started my trip to Slovenia in the capital city of Ljubljana. This is one of the best looking small cities I’ve ever been to. It’s located in the middle of the country, and rests among the snow capped alps. The city’s architecture is beautiful, it’s clean and modern, and has an artsy-underground feel due to the large student population. I was lucky enough to be there in the spring, when the city is in full bloom. It’s definitely one of those places, like the northeastern parts of the States where I’m from, where the first real week of warm weather in the spring is a kind of unofficial festival of smiles and small talk. I was lucky enough to be there during that time, and the city was full all kinds of blossoming, flowers, trees, and the discarding of winter garments. I stayed in a hostel that was an old military barracks, and I had some pony steaks at a restaurant in town. (Don’t worry when you eat out in Slovenia

it’s not always that weird, but it’s almost always delicious.) There’s plenty of stuff to see in town, but the nature around is amazing.

After a few days Ljubljana, Slovenia

, I headed for the coast. That’s the great thing about Slovenia, the alps are a 2-3 hour bus ride from some gorgeous Adriatic coast line. The Skocjan caves are on the way, and are an amazing sight to behold. Definitely a must see. The coasts are nice, if not spectacular, but all and all a great ending to a trip that showed me a country in full bloom.
