December 29, 2019 by Jason B.

It is quite popular to take in a play at the beautiful and historic Omsk State Academic Drama Theatre while visiting Omsk

on a Trans-Siberian Railway tour.

The Omsk State Academic Drama Theatre is centrally located in Omsk, and it is a short walk from the Om river. Within its halls, performances such as Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac, or Maxim Gorky’s Enemies play on the main stage to sold out audiences.

The building itself is a piece of art and very meticulously designed. The hall has brilliant acoustics and everything is carefully maintained. It is truly an experience to behold.

World-class Performances

With such a reputation for perfection and prestige, it is not uncommon that passionate theatre-goers from around the world flock to Omsk to come see the spectacle of timeless plays like Cyrano de Bergerac in front of a live audience.

Cyrano de Bergerac

FPG1

Originally written in 1897 by Edmond Rostand and directed by Alexander Kuzin, Cyrano de Bergerac is a play written in verse, with rhyming couplets of 12 syllables per line.

It is a light hearted heroic comedy, divided into 5 acts with one intermission.

From Wikipedia; “Hercule Savinien Cyrano de Bergerac

, a cadet (nobleman serving as a soldier) in the French Army, is a brash, strong-willed man of many talents.

In addition to being a remarkable duelist, he is a gifted, joyful poet and is also shown to be a musician. However, he has an extremely large nose, which is the reason for his own self-doubt. This doubt prevents him from expressing his love for his distant cousin, the beautiful and intellectual heiress Roxane, as he believes that his ugliness denies him the “dream of being loved by even an ugly woman.”

The performance typically premieres in September, with its last premier being September 14 – 15, 2013.

Other Premieres

The current season of plays and performances include Jordi Galseran’s METHOD GR?NHOLMA, Elena Chizhov’s Time Women, Mikhail Bulgakov’s Running, Carlo Goldoni’s The Liar, and several others.

If you’re dying to see a performance at the Omsk State Academic Drama Theatre, taking the Trans-Siberian Express tours
