Why Ohio is the Best Place to Live

May 27, 2018 by Jason B.

Thinking about putting your house on the market among the Columbia houses for sale, or any other city and moving to a new state? You’d do well to consider Ohio, in fact, we think the Buckeye State is the very best place to live.

Here’s why.

The Cost of Living is Low

If you’re tired of struggling to pay all the bills, you’ll appreciate the low cost of living in Ohio. A ranking by US News placed Ohio at No. 2 in the entire country when it comes to affordability, with groceries, medical care and housing all below average.

It’s Ideally Located

Ohio sits roughly midway between Chicago and New York City, while places like Nashville, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. and even the Outer Banks in North Carolina are all within an easy day’s drive. Nearly half the U.S. population lives within 500 miles of many cities in this state, including Columbus, Dayton, Cleveland, and Cincinnati.

There are Lots of Opportunities to Live the Waterfront Lifestyle

While Ohio may be in the middle of the country, there are many opportunities for living on the waterfront. It’s home to over 400 miles of waterways along its southern border – the state has more than 3,300 named rivers and streams with just as many, or more, smaller unnamed branches, along with around 60,000 lakes, ponds, and reservoirs. Of course, that includes

Lake Erie, a top destination for many when it comes to fishing, boating, and many other recreational activities.

Access to World Class Education

If you’re looking to further your education, Ohio is a great place to be, home to a number of top-notching higher learning institutions, including Ohio State University, Kenyon College, Case Reserve University, the University of Dayton, Kent State University and Miami University, just to name a few. Access also brings a youthful, vibrant culture to many cities, although retirees and people of all ages can enjoy the educational opportunities here.

Spectacular Natural Beauty

Ohio isn’t only about its cities, there are plenty of natural wonders to enjoy too, from the river gorges in Cuyahoga Valley National Park to the magnificent landscapes at Hocking Hills State Park. It’s dotted with impressive rock formations, waterfalls, and caves, popular for hiking, kayaking, climbing, and rappelling. Especially dazzling in the fall, you’ll have access to some of the best autumn foliage as the park is home to 10,000 acres of maple, sassafras, hemlock, hickory, and oak that bring a breathtaking array of color. The Appalachian Mountains cover much of eastern and southeastern Ohio, providing even more opportunities for outdoor adventure among beautiful nature.

All Four Seasons

Ohio experiences all four seasons, with springtime rain creating lush scenery and blooming flowers. Enjoy bright sunny summer days for lazy days on the water, crisp autumn days highlighted by fall color and a winter wonderland, ideal for cozying up to a fire watching the falling snowflakes.

Friendly People

Ohio is friendly and unpretentious. You’ll often find friendly strangers chatting with you while you’re in line at the grocery store, and pretty much everywhere else you go. Reader’s Digest even ranked Columbiana, Ohio at No. 3 of more than 1,000 other towns on its “Nicest Places in America” contest which focused on uncovering “places where people are kind and treat each other with respect.
